JOSEPH GOEBBELS: HIS LEGACY AND HIS (LUCKY) COPYCATS _[Post # P2511]

On this anniversary of the Kristallnacht (Night of Broken Glass) and, by the way, of the birth of an overtly anti-Semitic theologian (Martin Luther, who was also an Augustinian friar, i.e., a follower of the Rule of Augustine of Hippo, a major architect of an endless anti-Jewish publicity campaign), it may be worth spending a few words on Paul Joseph Goebbels, the well-known Nazi master of propaganda.
Considering that the interested reader can easily find hundreds of excellent articles and books about this Nazi official, I will only mention a few aspects of his biography.
After earning a Ph.D. in history and literature in 1922, he worked as a journalist and a bank clerk, joined the Nazi Party in 1924, was promoted to Gauleiter (District Leader) in 1926, in Berlin, where he tried to raise support for the Nazis, was elected to the Reichstag (German parliament) in 1928 despite the poor performance of his party, and finally became Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda in 1933, when Adolf Hitler was appointed to the rank of Reich Chancellor (Head of Government).
Cinema, theater, music, press, art and literature were completely under his Ministry's control during the Nazi dictatorship. In addition, Joseph Goebbels staged impressive celebrations and ceremonies of his party, supervised the burning of books that didn't fit in the regime's strategy, promoted anti-Semitic rhetoric, called for rallies against the Jews, played a key role in the pogrom that occurred during the Night of Broken Glass (between November 9 and 10, 1938) and oversaw the deportation of Jewish prisoners to extermination camps.

Notably, Joseph Goebbels was not involved in military actions, nor did he plan the invasion of any country or the Final Solution to the Jewish Question—AS WAS THE CASE, for instance, of Julius Streicher, an anti-Semitic Nazi fanatic who was never entangled in military affairs and extermination practices...
So, what happened in the end?
Just before Berlin surrendered to the Red Army, Joseph Goebbels decided it would be better to die. Instead, Julius Streicher, a former District Leader and founder of the strongly anti-Semitic newspaper Der Stürmer, was captured by American troops, CONVICTED OF CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY at the Nuremberg Trials and sentenced to death.
Now, it is interesting to have a look at Article 6 of the Charter of the International Military Tribunal, whose objective was "the just and prompt trial and punishment of major war criminals of the European Axis".
This Article defines the crimes for which the Tribunal had to determine (possible) "individual responsibility":
➤ "Crimes against Peace: namely, planning, preparation, initiation or waging of a war of aggression, or a war in violation of international treaties, agreements or assurances, or participation in a Common Plan or Conspiracy for the accomplishment of any of the foregoing."
➤ "War Crimes: namely, violations of the laws or customs of war. Such violations shall include, but not be limited to, murder, ill-treatment or deportation to slave labor or for any other purpose of civilian population of or in occupied territory, murder or ill-treatment of prisoners of war or persons on the seas, killing of hostages, plunder of public or private property, wanton destruction of cities, towns, or villages, or devastation not justified by military necessity."
➤ "Crimes against Humanity: namely, murder, extermination, enslavement, deportation, and other inhumane acts committed against any civilian population, before or during the war, or persecutions on political, racial, or religious grounds in execution of or in connection with any crime within the jurisdiction of the Tribunal, whether or not in violation of domestic law of the country where perpetrated."
Next, it is specified that "Leaders, organizers, instigators, and accomplices participating in the formulation or execution of a Common Plan or Conspiracy to commit any of the foregoing crimes are responsible for all acts performed by any persons in execution of such plan."
In view of the above statements, it may also be interesting to focus on the words of the President of the Tribunal, when the verdict on Julius Streicher was issued.
As far as "Crimes against Peace" are concerned, we come across the following remarks:
"Streicher was a staunch Nazi and supporter of Hitler's main policies. There is no evidence to show that he was ever within Hitler's inner circle advisers; nor during his career was he closely connected with the formulation of the policies which led to war. He was never present, for example, at any of the important conferences when Hitler explained his decisions to his leaders. Although he was a Gauleiter there is no evidence to prove that he had knowledge of those policies. In the opinion of the Tribunal, the evidence fails to establish his connection with the conspiracy or common plan to wage aggressive war as that conspiracy has been elsewhere defined in this Judgment."
Instead, when the issue of "Crimes against Humanity" was considered, the President immediately shed light on the defendant's responsibility:
"In his speeches and articles, week after week, month after month, he infected the German mind with the virus of anti-Semitism and incited the German people to active persecution".
Then, grim details were laid out and we will briefly list a few of them:
👉 "Streicher had charge of the Jewish boycott of 1st April, 1933"
👉 "He was responsible for the demolition on 10th August, 1938, of the Synagogue in Nuremberg"
👉 "And on 10th November, 1938, he spoke publicly in support of the Jewish pogrom which was taking place at that time"
👉 "As early as 1938 he began to call for the annihilation of the Jewish race"
👉 "Typical of his teachings was a leading article in September, 1938, which termed the Jew a germ and a pest, not a human being"
👉 "Such was the poison Streicher injected into the minds of thousands of Germans which caused them to follow the National Socialists policy of Jewish persecution and extermination"
👉 "As the war in the early stages proved successful acquiring more territory for the Reich, Streicher even intensified his efforts to incite the Germans against the Jews"
👉 "With knowledge of the extermination of the Jews in the Occupied Eastern Territory, this defendant continued to write and publish his propaganda of death"
👉 "Streicher's incitement to murder and extermination at the time when Jews in the East were being killed under the most horrible conditions clearly constitutes persecution on political and racial grounds in connection with war crimes as defined by the Charter, and constitutes a crime against humanity"
As already pointed out, Julius Streicher was condemned to death and I assume that Joseph Goebbels, if still alive, would have met the same fate: death sentence, perhaps with a not guilty verdict for "Crimes against Peace" and "War Crimes".
I guess that most readers will agree that the outcome of the Nuremberg Trials was fair (although nowadays lots of right thinking people reject capital punishment) and that the "European Axis", as well as the Japanese war machine, had to be destroyed at all costs, including the bombing of Dresden, the devastation of Berlin, the hundreds of tons of bombs dropped on the Monte Cassino Abbey in Italy, the atomic weapons in Japan.
Let me just note that, regrettably, it does happen that some military actions eventually turn out to be ineffectual: maybe completely useless and unnecessary. However, it is absolutely true that many problems can only be solved through extreme means, as proved by the second atomic bomb that was needed to end the Pacific War—and despite the enormous number of casualties in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there is little doubt that many more people (including civilians) would have died in Japan if that war had gone on with conventional weapons.
I know that the world, nowadays, is full of do-gooders, who have different feelings about the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, BUT, just to bring up another controversial issue, I even wonder if (proportionally) the number of deaths caused by drugs in Western countries is lower than the number of deaths caused by drugs and drug-related capital punishment in Singapore...
Of course, I am fully aware that "under international law and standards, the imposition of the death penalty for drug-related offences as a mandatory punishment is unlawful". YET, I am not so sure that the so-called "international law" is inevitably the best of the best. Frequently, in my view, it seems to be shaped by ideological beliefs...
That said, we can move on to the real subject of this post, starting with the meaning of the words terrorist and terrorism. Here follows what seems to be a widely acceptable definition:
"A terrorist is an individual who engages in or supports acts of terrorism. Terrorism is generally understood as the use of violence or threats to intimidate or coerce individuals or governments, often for political or ideological purposes. This behavior can be exhibited by various groups, including political parties, religious organizations, and revolutionary movements. The primary goal of terrorism is often to gain attention or influence public opinion regarding a specific cause or agenda."
Therefore, apart from despots like Recep Tayyip Erdoğan or Alī Hoseynī Khāmeneī, who are enthusiastic supporters of gunmen who make "use of violence or threats to intimidate or coerce individuals or governments" (EVEN IF these kapos do not want protesters in their countries), many people will probably agree that terrorists are criminals who indiscriminately kill people (as happened at the Bataclan concert hall in Paris on November 13, 2015) or blow themselves up among civilians (as happened at a Greek Orthodox Church in Damascus on June 22, 2025) or massacre civilians and take hostages for their "ideological purposes" (as happened near the Gaza Strip, in Israel, on October 7, 2023).
Since an individual who "engages in" terrorist activity must be directly involved in it, maybe we can be of the same opinion, if I claim that the word terrorists does include people like Osama bin Laden or Hassan Nasrallah or Ismā'īl Haniyeh, who (perhaps) never carried out any terror attack, but were directly involved as leaders of terrorist organizations and/or leading figures in the planning process of such attacks.
While talking about terrorism, it seems quite natural to focus for a while on a criminal consortium, which has been designated as a terrorist organization, for example, by the United States and the European Union: Hamas.
It should be obvious (but, alas, it is rarely clear) that I have just mentioned an armed group which is not a traditional terrorist organization like the Baader-Meinhof Group in Germany or the National Liberation Army in Colombia. As already pointed out in this website [for details click here], ACCORDING TO ITS ORIGINAL CHARTER (1988, Article Seven), it unequivocally and explicitly aims at the extermination of the Jews:
"The Hamas has been looking forward to implement Allah's promise whatever time it might take. The prophet, prayer and peace be upon him, said: The time will not come until Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! there is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him! This will not apply to the Gharqad, which is a Jewish tree."
It is worth noting that the charter was never revised, nor modified till 2017. In consequence, the large number of Palestinians who voted for Hamas in 2006 (in elections which were absolutely regular and free, to the best of this writer's knowledge) in practice had been trapped in a wicked, nefarious web. If we repeat the words that were said at the Nuremberg Trials when Julius Streicher was was found guilty of "Crimes against Humanity", we can certainly claim that those Palestinians were looking forward to a "policy of Jewish persecution and extermination": exactly like the Germans who had been induced by firebrands like Streicher (and Goebbels) "to follow the National Socialists policy of Jewish persecution and extermination".
In any case, if we go to the Gaza Strip, there seem to be good chances of coming across a terrorist or a puppet in the hands of terrorists, as experienced by a Russian-Israeli hostage in 2023, when he "was recaptured by Gazans and returned to the militants" after escaping from Hamas.
Nothing to do with the movie Schindler's List...
Yet, it is legitimate to observe that a new version of the charter was released in 2017. In the current text, there's no trace of the paragraph concerned with "Allah's promise", but the ultimate objective, the final solution did not seem to change very much, as shown by Article Twenty (and by the October 7 massacre):
"Hamas believes that no part of the land of Palestine shall be compromised or conceded, irrespective of the causes, the circumstances and the pressures and no matter how long the occupation lasts. Hamas rejects any alternative to the full and complete liberation of Palestine, from the river to the sea."
Thus, if we do not forget (or do not pretend to forget) the continuous aggression that has been ongoing for nearly eighty years (nearly eighty years of "Crimes against Peace" and "War Crimes" as defined by the Charter of the Nuremberg Tribunal"!!!) with three wars and an incredible number of terrorist actions against Israel, it is reasonable to believe that it was high time to put an end to that crazy virus after the October 2023 attack, as well as France and the United Kingdom took the decision to combat the Nazi threat after the invasion of Poland in 1939.
Not surprisingly, both the British and the French governments had come to the obvious conclusion that SIX YEARS OF NAZI MADNESS WERE ENOUGH.
Wisely, they did not wait till the end of the century—even though, in all sincerity, no one can deny that they got involved in a conflict which, so far, has been the most devastating war in terms of casualties and destructions. There were no qualms and the Allies, after leaving a trail of rubble across Germany, eventually had to raze Berlin to the ground.
On the other hand, it was not the Allies' fault if Hitler and his gang of criminals had taken cover in Berlin and tried to fight to the very end, deploying even young boys in the battlefields. Similarly, it was not Israel's fault if terrorists were hiding in hospitals, schools and residential areas: they had to be found and killed, no matter where they had holed up.
In a sense, the Israel Defense Forces should rather be praised for refraining from air strikes similar to the ones that were deemed to be necessary to win the Second World War—even if a more extensive use of fighter jets could have saved the lives of many Israeli soldiers.
Today, thinking back to events of the war against the Axis Powers, it looks surprising that so many people of the so-called free world have been supporting terrorist organizations since October 2023 and have turned a victim of decades of aggression into an aggressor.
It's as if large, rabid crowds of protesters had taken to the streets in London or New York City in 1943, when the German Army started to collapse, in order to stop the Allies, prevent further destruction, save the Nazi leadership and spare the lives of the young German boys who were going to be deployed to the front lines in the vain hope of defending their country and its regime.
Surely, if we make reference to the definitions of terrorist and terrorism which were mentioned above, we can draw a couple of sad conclusions:
➤ the Hamas terrorists have brilliantly accomplished the goal to "gain attention" and "influence public opinion regarding a specific cause or agenda"
➤ each rabble-rouser who has promoted anti-Semitic hatred, mass protests and anti-Israeli narratives in an attempt to stop military operations in the Gaza Strip (of course, in the name of would-be moral priorities) has actually tried to protect a terrorist organization (whose long-term goals are the destruction of Israel and the killing of Jews) and, not yet satisfied with nearly eighty years of racially and religiously motivated violence, has strived to give a contribution to further terrorist attacks and further murders, through an attempt to save as many terrorists as possible and offer them a chance to continue their job; in other words, that rabble-rouser is an individual who "supports acts of terrorism" and, hence, he himself/she herself can be seen as a "terrorist"
Without doubt, any demagogue who promoted anti-Semitic hatred, mass protests and anti-Israeli narratives with the aim, de facto, of ensuring the survival of terror organizations and encouraging terrorists to continue their criminal activity might also be judged according to the legal principles of the Nuremberg Trials.
In actual fact, it's easy to notice a close relationship with the case of Julius Streicher, a sort of low rank Goebbels who was found guilty of "crimes against humanity" even if he did not kill anyone, BUT, as explained by the President of the Tribunal, "spoke publicly in support of the Jewish pogrom", "began to call for the annihilation of the Jewish race", poisoned "the minds of thousands of Germans" who eventually followed "the National Socialists policy of Jewish persecution and extermination", made "efforts to incite the Germans against the Jews" and "continued to write and publish his propaganda of death".
Of course, in this context I am NOT implying that the anti-Israel, anti-Semitic tub-thumpers I am talking about have anything to do with pogroms, National Socialists policies, extermination of the Jews in any death camp, incitement to murder or extermination and, as a result, "Crimes against Humanity", as defined in the framework of the Nuremberg Trials.
I just mean to say that
🢂 lots of Goebbels-like agitators have been speaking publicly in support of terrorists whose openly declared aim is a new Jewish pogrom
🢂 lots of Goebbels-like agitators have been calling, before it was too late, for the survival of a terrorist group, which is fully determined to annihilate the Jewish race
🢂 lots of Goebbels-like agitators have been injecting poison into the minds of millions of people which caused them to support a terrorist organization directly engaged in Jewish persecution and extermination
🢂 lots of Goebbels-like agitators have been trying as hard as possible to incite millions of people against the Jews
🢂 with knowledge or, alternatively, with complete ignorance of history (nearly eighty years of indiscriminate hatred and attacks against the State of Israel), lots of Goebbels-like agitators have continued to write and publish hysterical articles in favor of radical militants, giving voice to their propaganda of death
🢂 Goebbels-like agitators' incitement to put an end to the hunt for terrorists amounts to supporting a policy of murder and extermination at the time when Jews are being targeted and killed: in closing, it clearly constitutes complicity in persecution on political and racial grounds, in full harmony with the strategy of terror organizations
We should remember that the recent anti-Jewish propaganda has also been responsible for criminal actions against Jewish people, synagogues, cemeteries and shops all over the world, including the killings of persons who were not involved in any military activity and were not living in Israel, as happened at a Jewish Museum in Washington D.C. and near a synagogue in Manchester, England.

Similarly, no one should forget the boycott issue, which was conscientiously considered during the Nuremberg Trials ("Streicher had charge of the Jewish boycott of 1st April, 1933"), while today any anti-Jewish feelings can freely spread their wings. There's a new generation of Goebbels-like individuals, who continue to give vent to their anti-Semitic hatred and anti-Israel fury: a new generation of lucky troublemakers, who have nothing to fear. They know that there will never be Nuremberg Trials in the politically correct society where they live!
Thus, any activity, any venue can suit their purposes and fit their agenda: mass demonstrations, university colleges, talk shows, movie festivals, theaters, pop concerts, sport events and parliament sessions.
There seems to be no limit to the anti-Israel bias, as shown by a recent "Glory to Hamas" billboard in Melbourne: the tip of an iceberg, the inevitable outcome of unbridled anti-Israel passion across Australia that comes together with pro-Hamas policies of many governments.
Meanwhile, day after day, this feast of anti-Jewish hatred and animus turns more and more cheerful thanks to the well-known "from the river to the sea" chants, which obviously refer to the dream of every copycat of Goebbels: the extinction of the State of Israel, a sort of final solution of the twenty-first century.

Next, needless to say, there's an explosion of arms embargoes, with a country like Spain in the front line—Spain, whose government has been suffering great anxiety for the fate of the terrorist organizations in the Gaza Strip, but has never focused on the "Crimes against Peace", "War Crimes" and "Crimes against Humanity" that were perpetrated by Isabel of Castile, Ferdinand of Aragon and their accomplices!!!
No one has ever thought about a Spanish version of the Nuremberg Trials in order to deliver a posthumous verdict!!!
Clearly, there's no chance for such a thing to happen. Instead, amid this flurry of Goebbels revivals, it's much more likely that an ICC arrest warrant is issued for statesmen who are trying to save their country from a terrorist threat, once and for all. And it would be funny if the entire process fell under the supervision of a prosecutor who might be embroiled in a "misconduct probe"!

Meanwhile, all over the Western World, we can witness an enthusiastic support for the two-state solution. It's a great idea, but it is also a great pity that the Arab nations had no interest in creating a Palestinian State in 1947 and 1948 or over the 18-year period from 1949 to 1967, when the countries around Palestine could have done whatever they wanted. At that time, there was little or no interest in the Palestinians. All efforts were being made to wage a new war against the Jews!
It's sad to say, but the fundamental problem for ordinary Palestinians is that nobody really cares for them very much.
Just to make an example, is anyone aware of zealous firebrands and hordes of fervent protesters who are eager to stop Hamas terrorists from "executing Palestinians accused of collaborating with Israel"?

More importantly, what about the problem posed by the alleged famine in the Gaza Strip?
Has anyone ever seen those firebrands and those protesters cry foul over the millions of dollars spent by the Hamas terrorists to build tunnels, while their fellow Palestinians were camped out in dire conditions and, maybe, dying of starvation?
Has anyone ever heard of mass protesters, heartbroken movie stars and merry flotillas when Palestinians were massacred in Jordan in 1970 and 1971? Or when they were killed in the Tel al-Zaatar refugee camp, near Beirut, by the Syrian Army in 1976? Or when they were murdered in the Shatila and Burj-el Barajneh refugee camps, again in Lebanon, between 1985 and 1987 by the Shiite Amal militia? Or when they were slaughtered between 2011 and 2020 in Syria by troops that were loyal to Bashar al-Assad?
Most likely, the answer is NO!!!
The only well-known carnage is the one that took place in the Sabra and Shatila refugee camp, in Lebanon, in 1982: a massacre that was perpetrated by the Lebanese Christian Phalangist militia, but the politically correct community was so lucky that Ariel Sharon and the Israel Defence Forces were around. Therefore, they should have stopped the Phalangists and, it goes without saying!, were responsible for the killings according to the common narrative.
In the end, it's hard to believe that most of the firebrands and most of the protesters have been moved by alleged humanitarian purposes during the last couple of years. Everything seems to rest on ideological arguments: specifically, on the anti-Israel sentiments that began to arise in the fifties, when it became clear that the Jewish State had no intention to live a miserable life and adhere to the Communist doctrine, contrary to the expectations of the Soviets, who had voted in favor of the Partition Plan for Palestine at the UN General Assembly on November 29, 1947.
In the same way, no one gives a damn about ordinary people in Sudan—YET, with a major difference: there's NEVER been any military activity of the Israel Defence Forces in that region. Accordingly, we have NEVER seen excited Goebbels-like agitators, frantic mobs and Communist New Yorkers complain about the suffering of the poor Sudanese civilians and call for a ceasefire... or, maybe better, an immediate ceasefire!!!
Not to talk about the denazification process, which was carefully and rigorously implemented all over the planet, WHILE THERE NEVER WAS ANY DETERRORIZATION PROCESS in the Middle East. On the contrary, terrorist organizations have been (and still are) cherished, fostered, encouraged and sponsored by many governments and lots of international agencies, which are quite often based in the Western World and, sometimes, seem to be operated by terrorists.
The results are obvious: for example, Palestinian flags "flown during an anti-Israel protest in Seattle, WA, on October 5, 2024" and surrounded by "flags of U.S.-designated terror groups Hezbollah and Hamas".
I wonder what would happen if, INSTEAD, somewhere in Europe or America, we came across a mass demonstration with German flags surrounded by Nazi flags and banners, as suggested by the annoying (or, more precisely, disgusting) image on the right. Note that this picture was inspired by a detail of a photograph in the ADL article quoted above, where a couple of Palestinian flags can be seen together with a much bigger Hamas flag.As I've just said, if anyone thinks that the image with the Nazi flag is disgusting, I fully agree. Sure enough, especially German people could find it horrific, WHILE no protesters are shocked, no Palestinians seem to be shocked, when they see black, white, green, red flags flying together with the flags of terrorist militias.
Hence, anyone can be inclined to believe that, according to the Goebbels-like activists who organize this kind of demonstrations and according to the protesters themselves, there is little or no difference between the concept of Palestine and the essence of terrorism.
Remarkably, this possible correlation between Palestine and terrorism cannot be dismissed as a fabrication by racist, Zionist, Islamophobic media. For instance, if we browse through the website of a network which presents itself as "Egypt's leading independent English media organisation", we certainly find obvious comments about "a long-standing tradition of support for Palestinian rights, often echoed within Egyptian society", BUT we can also wake up to a bleak reality: "Egypt fears that a mass exodus from Gaza could bring Hamas and other militants into its territory, potentially destabilizing Sinai, where the military has previously battled Islamic militants".
To put it straight, no one will easily forget what happened in Jordan and Lebanon some time ago, when a large number of Palestinians started to live in these countries! "Hamas and other militants" are key components of the Palestinian society—and beyond a shadow of doubt, Egypt doesn't want more troubles, since it already has to cope with Muslim Brotherhood terrorist groups!

Anyway, in principle the two-state solution might still turn out to be a wonderful compromise, sooner or later.
However, even the most devout and fervent sponsors of this initiative should not pretend to ignore the evident threat that has been hanging over Israel for so many years: it cannot disappear all of a sudden.
Hence, it would probably be fair if those devout and fervent sponsors (from Wellington to Dublin, from Paris to Ottawa, from Canberra to Madrid, and so on) were also ready to shell out the billions of dollars that would be required to build a steel barrier all along the future border: a steel barrier that should be, at the very least, 5 ft thick, 50 ft high above the ground and 500 yds deep, in order to reduce the risk posed by structures like the Gaza tunnels.
No doubt, it would be very nice if it were possible to clearly distinguish terrorists from civilians, sort them out and quietly remove any threat. Even better, it would be great if it were possible to send a couple of progressive bureaucrats to the Gaza Strip or Nablus or Tulkarem with the task of kindly asking terrorists to come with them to a court of law (maybe an international court) and get judged—without the need of killing anyone.
Unfortunately, this hypothetical procedure is completely out of the question and, in today's world, terrorist organizations continue to have an enormous practical advantage, when they want to fight an enemy that belongs to the so-called civilized world. They can use human shields and crush internal protesters with brutal repression, WHILE the vast community of Goebbels-like rabble-rousers and inspired Western activists remains deadly silent, BUT is ready to cry and shout if an alleged civilian gets killed, when gangs of terrorists are under attack.
Without fail, the rabble-rousers and the hordes of activists who fight for the inalienable rights of terrorist groups will never make an attempt to think that those terrorists would not be there, if so many alleged civilians were not their fans, their supporters, their sponsors, their accomplices.
It's the same old story and history repeats itself, as highlighted by a short paragraph of Jihad Al-Kuffar (Chapter 17). It's about a Taliban fighter who happens to be in Kandahar and is chatting with a fellow militant, just before the first American strikes in Afghanistan, in October 2001.
So, we are talking of a fiction event that allegedly took place almost twenty-five years ago, was the subject of a book published fifteen years ago and had to do with terrorists who were in Afghanistan, ready to fight against the Americans. Yet, the general scenario appears to be quite similar to what we have recently seen in the Gaza Strip, with Hamas terrorists instead of al-Qaeda terrorists and the Israel Defence Forces instead of the US Army.
As a matter of fact, according to the novel, the main character, a fictitious mujahid, is speaking to another militant and is following the same line of thought that certainly inspired all Hamas leaders in October 2023:
The Islamic Emirate is really in a position to achieve victory because its masters can afford unlimited losses among the Afghan population and are ready to intimidate their domestic opponents by slaughtering men, women, and children. And on top of everything else, we only need to hide in urban areas to find a safe haven. No one will ever cause trouble as long as the West is happy with its moral code and haunted by the fear of killing civilians, who are systematically counted as innocent victims if they get hit by a US bomb.
